The best poker stories usually arrive after the worst poker sessions.

There is a special kind of creativity that appears after midnight.

Usually after losing a pot.

Sometimes after firing too many bullets in a re-entry tournament.

Always after asking, "How did he call with that?"

That is when Chronicles get written.

Not from peace.

From the specific emotional state that comes after a poker session has made clear that the universe is testing something.

The best story ideas arrive in the parking structure.

The best opening lines arrive somewhere between the poker room exit and the car.

By the time home is reached, the first draft exists in some form.

By 2 AM, it has been typed.

By morning, it will probably be edited.

Or it will be published exactly as written at 2 AM because sometimes emotional accuracy is more important than editorial polish.

Chronicles are the archive of all of it.
